چکیده

The finite element model-based design of steel structures is getting increasing attention by designers, especially in the case buckling problems welded plated and static check interacting stability behaviour. FEM-based approach introduced standardised EN 1993–1-5 Annex C providing ability to calculate resistance based on direct geometrical material non-linear analysis using imperfections (GMNIA). By this process, application (shape magnitude) has a large impact computed resistance. It true if phenomenon (interaction plate column-like behaviour) be analysed. general way consider FE models equivalent geometric covering effect residual stresses imperfections. Several previous investigations prove can lead conservative resistance, problem because two different leads duplication stresses. Therefore, it highly important determine appropriate imperfection shape size for problems. current paper deals with determination local buckling-type imperfection, which further applied numerical used problems, next step planned research program. Within paper, necessary magnitudes are determined square box-section columns various grades (S235 – S960) perfectly match proved test results gives proposals approaches.

Local, Distortional, and Euler Buckling of Thin-Walled Columns

Open cross-section, thin-walled, cold-formed steel columns have at least three competing buckling modes: local, distortional, and Euler ~i.e., flexural or flexural-torsional! buckling. Closed-form prediction of the buckling stress in the local mode, including interaction of the connected elements, and the distortional mode, including consideration of the elastic and geometric stiffness at the w...

Imperfections and Energy Barriers in Shell Buckling

The elastic buckling of shell structures such as spherical shells subject to external pressure and cylindrical shells loaded in axial compression is highly sensitive to imperfections and often catastrophic. Recent studies of spherical shells have provided accurate quantitative results for the relation between the buckling pressure and the amplitude and shape of geometric imperfections and, addi...

Buckling of liquid columns.

Under appropriate conditions, a column of viscous liquid falling onto a rigid surface undergoes a buckling instability. Here we show experimentally and theoretically that liquid buckling exhibits a hitherto unsuspected complexity involving three different modes-viscous, gravitational, and inertial-depending on how the viscous forces that resist bending of the column are balanced. We also find t...

Worst Shapes of Imperfections for Space Trusses with Multiple Global and Local Buckling Modes

The initial postbuckling behavior and imperfection sensitivity of truss-type structures in which the joints do not transmit moments is determined by means of the Lyapunov-SchmidtKoiter approach. Such structures possess local buckling modes involving the buckling of individual members, and global modes involving axial deformations of all members but no member buckling. Of particular interest is ...

Elastic buckling finite strip analysis of the AISC sections database and proposed local plate buckling coefficients

The objective of this paper is to provide analytical expressions for the elastic cross-section local buckling stress, including element interaction, of hot-rolled steel structural shapes. The crosssection local buckling stress is determined by finite strip analysis. Local stability of each crosssection is considered in axial compression, as well as positive and negative bending about the major ...
